About Tapestry Counselling
Proudly supporting the East Van Community for 10 years
At Tapestry, we are committed to providing exceptional counselling services to people from all walks of life.
We are passionate about helping people to heal from abuse and trauma, to recover from depression, anxiety, and grief, to find emotional well-being, and to thrive in the midst of life’s challenges.
The name “Tapestry” is based on the idea that all people are interwoven in 'the cloth of life.’ As well, each person’s life itself can be seen as a tapestry that is made up of a diversity of threads of varying colours and textures. At the Tapestry Counselling Centre, we will help you to examine the threads of your life more closely, to see how they are interconnected, to reveal patterns, and to weave new directions in your life. While it’s important to explore the big picture, we never lose sight of the fact that you are seeking counselling for real change, healing, and practical solutions. Your experience of counselling will be a balance between finding new insights and taking practical steps toward a better life.
To achieve the change, healing and practical solutions we aim to provide, we are pleased to offer specialized counselling therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing and Processing (Body-work), Focusing-Oriented Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy for couples, Gottman’s Therapy for couples, Existential Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Play Therapy for children, Expressive Arts and Art Therapy for all ages.
In each counselling session, you can expect:
You will be able to tell your story, to be heard and understood.
You will have the themes and patterns in your story revealed.
You will have your strengths highlighted and used to tackle your challenges.
You will sometimes be given “homework” between sessions – ideas to think or write about, or actions to try out. We do this to facilitate positive changes, healing, and growth in your life.
We will be curious, honest and gentle with you.
If You Are New to Counselling….
The benefits of counselling include:
Positive change
Healing and growth
Insight and clarity
Practical solutions
Education and information
Acceptance and support
Healthier relationships
Peace of mind
There are also some risks that you should be aware of before you begin a counseling process. Counselling sometimes requires that you be willing to examine difficult experiences in your life, to feel stronger-than-usual emotions, to bring about shifts in self-awareness, or to face challenging aspects of yourself. It can be a difficult and uncomfortable process at times. However, our aim is always for you to experience self-improvement, healing and positive change.
